Notes on the figures
- EB3A, rated capacity: The product title and marketing copy round this to 268 Wh.
- RIVER 2, rated capacity: Rated capacity as listed on the manufacturer’s spec sheet.
- EB3A, continuous output: The spec table lists the two AC outlets as sharing 600 W in total.
- RIVER 2, continuous output: Continuous AC output at 120 V, 50/60 Hz.
- EB3A, surge: Listed in the spec table as the surge rating of the 600 W pure sine wave inverter; the page does not market a separate boost mode.
- RIVER 2, surge: Stated in the AC output line of the spec sheet.
- EB3A, full recharge: Converted from the stated ≈1.3-1.8 hours in the 350 W Turbo charging mode; Standard Mode (268 W) is stated as ≈1.5-2.0 hours. The page separately advertises an 80% charge in 30 minutes.
- RIVER 2, full recharge: Full 0-100% recharge from a wall outlet as stated by the manufacturer.
- EB3A, cell chemistry: Lithium iron phosphate chemistry, as stated in the battery spec table.
- RIVER 2, cell chemistry: The spec sheet lists the cell chemistry as LFP (lithium iron phosphate).
- EB3A, cycle life: Cycle count until the battery retains 80% of its original capacity.
- EB3A, cycle life: From the same sentence as the cycle-life figure.
- RIVER 2, cycle life: The battery retains at least 80% of its capacity after 3,000 charge cycles.
- RIVER 2, cycle life: This threshold comes from the same statement as the cycle-life figure.
- RIVER 2, UPS switchover: EcoFlow describes this as an emergency power source (EPS) switch-over rather than a true uninterruptible power supply, and advises against relying on it for sensitive electronics such as data servers.
- EB3A, expandable: The FAQ states capacity cannot be expanded with external expansion batteries, and the built-in battery is not user-replaceable.
- EB3A, solar input: Requires solar panels with an open-circuit voltage of 12-28 V.
- RIVER 2, solar input: Maximum solar charging input, at 11-30 V and up to 8 A.
- EB3A, AC input: In Turbo Mode; Standard Mode is 268 W, and the maximum combined input is 430 W with AC and solar charging simultaneously.
- RIVER 2, AC input: Maximum AC wall-charging input.
- EB3A, AC outlets: Two 120 V outlets sharing 600 W in total.
- EB3A, USB-C: A single USB-C port.
- RIVER 2, USB-C: The USB-C port serves as both input and output at up to 60 W.
- EB3A, app: App connection is via Bluetooth only, with a stated range of about 10 m; no Wi-Fi control is mentioned.
- RIVER 2, app: The spec sheet lists app control over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth via the EcoFlow app.
- EB3A, warranty: Stated as 24 months.
- RIVER 2, warranty: Warranty length as stated on the product page.
- EB3A, weight: The spec also gives the metric weight as 4.6 kg.
- RIVER 2, weight: Stated as an approximate net weight.
- EB3A, price: Price shown on the product page with no sale price displayed; the model is marked as discontinued and its purchase options were shown as sold out at the time of capture.
- RIVER 2, price: Price shown on the product page at the time of checking; no separate list or sale price was displayed.

What the differences mean
Weight for the capacity. The RIVER 2 carries 33.2 Wh/lb against 26.5 Wh/lb for the EB3A. Both are one-hand units; the difference matters if the unit moves between car, porch and basement.
Cycle rating. The RIVER 2 is rated for 3,000 cycles against 2,500 for the EB3A, both to the same remaining-capacity threshold — otherwise we would not compare them. At one full cycle a week the difference is measured in years, not months; at occasional outage use neither limit is reached.
Output for the money. 2.74 W/$ on the EB3A against 1.44 W/$ on the RIVER 2: this is the ratio to read if your outage plan is one big appliance, not many small ones.
Which one, and for whom
On normalized measures the RIVER 2 leads on watt-hours per pound (33.2 Wh/lb vs 26.5 Wh/lb) and rated cycle life (3,000 vs 2,500). The EB3A answers on continuous watts per dollar (2.74 W/$ vs 1.44 W/$). The deciding figure is the one your own outage will test first:
- CPAP overnight. Switchover: EB3A no UPS figure stated, RIVER 2 30 ms. A 40 W CPAP runs roughly 5.4–5.8 hr on the EB3A and 5.1–5.6 hr on the RIVER 2. Neither covers a full night (8 hr) without a humidifier at this capacity, so here the hours decide, not switchover.
- Keeping a refrigerator cold. The compressor has to start before hours matter. The EB3A states a 1,200 W surge rating; the RIVER 2 states a 600 W surge rating. A full-size refrigerator needs about 900 W to start.
- A multi-day outage with a generator or solar to recharge from. Full recharge: EB3A a stated 78–108 min range, RIVER 2 60 min. The faster unit spends less generator fuel per charge.

A 256–268.8 Wh battery cannot do what a gasoline generator does — neither unit’s continuous rating covers a 1,500 W space heater (see the runtime table) — but it also cannot poison a household. How often gasoline generators kill indoors — and how the official count keeps being revised — is documented in our CPSC revision matrix, and this page puts every verified unit on the same refrigerator scenario.
