# WHAT THIS SHOWS: CPSC revises the most recent year's death count upward in later
# editions as delayed reports arrive. Each column is one published edition.
#
# SCOPE: Generator-related non-fire CO deaths only. These are COUNTS OF REPORTED
# INCIDENTS, not statistical estimates. CPSC states the data are anecdotal and that
# no statistical inference about the trend is possible. CPSC publishes a separate
# statistical-estimate series; the two are NOT comparable and are not mixed here.

# NO DENOMINATOR: there is no published count of generators in use, so nothing here
# supports a failure rate, a risk-per-unit, or a comparison between brands.
#
# KNOWN SOURCE ERROR: the July 2023 edition prints all-tool deaths in the Total row
# as 87. The eleven yearly figures sum to 872, and that row's generator total (789)
# plus other-tool total (83) also gives 872. We use 872 and flag it as a correction.
#
